Grappling with best practices for psychedelic therapy. Should touch between therapists and patients be permitted during treatment? What should informed consent look like with psychedelics?
I recommend consulting with Native practitioners for advice on touch ethics. Better to seek info from long term sources than think we can invent a new system that addresses unknown concerns.
After hearing the Cover Story podcast episodes detailing some specific abuses of power in psychedelic therapy, I began wondering if there WERE a Code of Ethics for practitioners (and providers). I'm gratified to see this question being addressed in a conscious way. In my training as a healthcare professional, Ethics education was of primary importance--I learned there were so many more specifics to ethical behavior than just being a "good person" offered me. And, I agree that the added aspect of accountability is necessary. A good ethical code provides safety for both the client/patient and the practitioner. I also like the suggestion by Fannie Lee to consult w/Native America and other Indigenous practitioners, as there will be valuable help there. Thanks for this interview.
